It is sold as Ziagen and in the combination formulations Trizivir (abacavir, zidovudine and lamivudine) and Kivexa/Epzicom(abacavir and lamivudine). It has been well tolerated: the main side effect is hypersensitivity, it can be severe, and very rarely fatal. Genetic testing can indicate whether an individual will be hypersensitive; over 90% of patients can safely take abacavir. However, in a separate study, in 90% of patients, the risk of heart attack had shown increases.

One of the main advantages of atripla is it can be taken once daily and reduces the stress in a antiretroiviral regime. Atripla is a combination pill that contains Tenofovir, Efavirenz, and Emtricibine. Side effects include dizziness, tiredness, upset stomach, skin discoloration, sleepiness, and hallucinations. Lamivudine is a well tolerated NRTI and in low doses is often used to treat hepatitis. Zidovudine helps slow the progression of HIV and was the first drug approved to treat HIV.You should not take Epivir, Retrovir, Epzicom (abacavir and lamivudine), and Trizivir (abacavir, lamivudine, zidovudine) while you are taking Combivir. If you have a co-infection of hepatitis you should have your liver checked. Serious side effects include muscle pain, weakness, trouble breathing, increase heart rate, nausea, vomiting, cold feeling, stomach pain, numbness, fever, and chills. didanosine

Didanosine DDI - is sold as Videx and Videx EC. It is a reverse transcriptase inhibitor, effective against HIV and used in combination with other antiretroviral drug therapy as part of highly active antiretroviral therapy. Didanosine may reduce the amount of HIV in the blood and increase the number of CD4 cells (T-cells) in the blood. DO NOT take Videx if you have suspected pancretitis or confirmed pancretitis, death has occurred in patients with pancretitis taking Videx. Reported side effects include dry mouth, chills, fever, pain, and changes in body fat.

Emtricitabine combo pill

Tenvir (Tenvir, Emtricitabine)- is a NRTI and used to be named coviracil. Emtricitabine is analogous to cytidine, the drug is copied into new viral DNA and works by stopping reverse transcriptase. Emtricitabine is often used in combination therapy with tenofir and is sold as Viread and Tenvir. Side effects include diarrhea, headache, nausea, and rash.

Lamivudine

Epivir (Lamivudine)- is a potent NRTI (nucleoside analog reverse transcriptase inhibitor). It is sold as Zeffix, Heptovir, Epivir-HBV, and Epivir. Lamivudine has been used for treatment of hepatitis B at a lower dose than given to HIV patients. It aids in the seroconversion of e-antigen positive hepatitis B and also improves histology staging of the liver. Lamivudine is used heavily as it is well tolerated.

Efavirenz
Efavirenz - is sold as Sustiva and Stocrin is a NNRTI (non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor) and is used as part of highly active antiretroviral therapy for the treatment of HIV and AIDS. For HIV infection that has not previously been treated, the US Department of Health and the Panel on Antiretroviral Guidelines currently suggests the use of efavirenz in combination with lamivudine/zidovudine (Combivir) or tenofovir/emtricitabine (Truvada) as the preferred NNRTI-based regimens in both adults and adolescents. Efavirenz is also used in combination with other antiretroviral agents as part of an expanded postexposure prophylaxis regimen to prevent HIV transmission for those exposed to materials associated with a high risk for HIV transmission. Sustiva can cause serious psychiatric symptoms including severe depression, suicidal thoughts, aggression, extreme fear, or unusual behavior.

Side effects include low blood pressure, hair loss, constipation, diarrhea, metallic taste in mouth, bone suppression (which lowers white cell count), and nausea.

Both are used in a highly active antiretroviral therapy.

Stavudine .

Stavudine - is sold as Zerit is a NARTI (nucleoside analog reverse transcriptase inhibitor), it has more severe side effects then other NARTI drugs and as a result is not prescribe very often in developed countries. However it is one of the first options available for countries that are just starting to distribute and develop HIV/AIDS related treatments or those with less money.

More about Zerit and Zerit price chart.
